I was listening to both "Acts" of Vangelis' fantastic "Heaven and Hell" and got to thinking about whether I could make portraits more vivid with HDR. So I set my stuff up and shot this. I had to stand very very still... Retook this probably four or five times; it's inconvenient to try to bracket from in front of the camera without a cable release.
And what did I learn from this? HDR-ifying people doesn't really make anything more vivid; it just brings out all the imperfections in their face. Namely: I haven't shaved for a couple of days.
HDR from 3 exposures Photomatix Pro 3 for tone mapping, Photoshop for crop, resize, and slight colour correction(a little yellow, tapped the blue level up some) Nikon D300, Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6
Hey dude, thanks so much for the feature! You so didn't have to do that, that was really nice of you! Also, great post, I read the whole thing. It's so cool that you actually did a piece on such an obscure style of portrait.
Again, thanks!
